Are you looking to discover space on Earth? When you start to focus on it… you will see it all around you!
Even if you can’t or don’t want to go into space, there is still plenty for space-lovers to enjoy right here on earth.
Let The Space Tester show you where and how.
DISCOVER SPACE ON EARTH
From mars and lunar landscapes to visiting space centers, observatories and science museums around the world, there is a LOT of space to be found right here on earth.
Have you ever gone stargazing? Or tried night photography? Or perhaps you are more interested in witnessing the northern light / aurora or eclipse magic.
If you are interested in space travel, astronomy, astrology and enjoying the planet we live on, this section is for you.
We won’t forget about all the space nerds (ourselves included), loving to see space in movies, on TV, in books, in plays and on art works from around the world… and beyond.
We also don’t shy away from considering the possibilities of alien life and we love a bit of science-fiction, tacky space crafts & party ideas and looking at future tech…
Remember: The Truth is Out There!
1. MOON LANDSCAPES ON EARTH
While most of us will probably never set foot on the actual moon landscape, there is a solution that will have you second-guess if you’re still on our home planet: and that is to visit these Moon- or Mars landscapes right here on Earth!
Did you know that there are many terrains on our planet that are quite similar to what you might find on the surface of Moon or Mars, and even beyond that?
From impact craters to tundra, deserts and volcanic areas, these destinations have similar microbial habitats along with the land formations that make them a good comparison to what’s out there.
2. OBSERVING THE NIGHT SKY
Visible with the naked eye, the motions of the Moon have been observed for thousands of years.
Studying the relationship between our Sun, Moon and Earth, early philosophers began to make sense of the Moon Phases. They realised its changing shape and illumination were caused by different amounts of sunlight reflected during its orbit around Earth.
Astronomers created instruments and models to further their understanding of the Moon’s constant motion and our relationship to it. The invention of the telescope in the early 17th century and the later development of photography and techniques of recording data from space have all transformed how and what we we could see the night sky.
Around the world, we all see the same Moon, but have found different ways to interpret its significance. When was the last time you looked at the Moon and the Stars?
Whether it’s stargazing with your own eyes, a telescope in your garden or from a dark sky area, or even by visiting an observatory or planetarium to learn more about astronomy – I’m sure that each time you look up, you will be in awe!
Are you interested in astral photography, seeing aurora, eclipses, or even finding out more about astrology and finding more meaning in the sky above? This section is for you!
3. SPACE AND SCIENCE CENTERS
Every since I was a kid, visiting a space center or science museum has always been exciting to me!
With the growing popularity of space travel these days, you can find hundreds of space research centers all over the world. Many of these provide informative tours or host visitor centers, interactive museums, and other unique experiences that are open to the public.
They are the perfect place to learn about the history of space flight, our solar system and everything beyond that, exploration of earth and space, and the future of science, technology and engineering.
4. SPACE EXPERIENCES
Besides visiting a space or science museum, there are so many more space experiences you can have on earth, most of them you wouldn’t even know they exist!
From visiting space-themed restaurants and hotels to interactive art installations and simulators and from fun space-themed events to even going on a real space camp!
Of course you can also add earthy experiences that train you like an astronaut, for example by going on a survival mission, (learning to) fly in a helicopter or small plane or going parasailing, skydiving or taking a parabolic flight to feel weightless.
What would you like to experience next? The possibilities are endless!
5. SCI-FI AND SCI-TECH
Are you interested in learning more about space physics, space science and everything that has to do with future tech, such as virtual reality, augmented reality or robotics? This section is for you!
From searching for alien life to applying space research findings into everyday habits and products, if you can imagine it (and even if you can’t), we’ll cover it here!
Of course we also take the opportunity to share our love for science fiction in films, tv-shows, books, paintings, photography, theatre and other art forms and we are excited to dream a little bit about what it would be like to live on Mars one day!
6. STEM FOR KIDS
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and this is exactly what this section is about!
With a background as a primary school teacher, I would love to make these topics more insightful and give parents and teachers handy resources, such as downloadable worksheets and fun ideas for space crafts to teach the next generation of explorers about our planet and other worlds beyond it!
7. SPACE EXPLORATION
Are you interested in seeing rocket launches? Listening to stories from astronauts about their life before, during and after travelling to space?
Would you like to know more about NASA, ESA and public space efforts?
Or are you specifically interested in spacecraft systems and how to design, repair and navigate them? This section is for you!
8. SPACE GIFTS
Are you a real Space Geek / Nerd or do you know someone that is, and do have a hard time finding the perfect gift for them? You’re at the right place!
I am always on the lookout for cool gifts for space lovers and have curated many items related to space travel, astronauts, our solar system, NASA, astronomy, astrology and even alien life that I personally own or would love to have myself.
